The Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW) has taken up a Suo moto cognizance over Zubeen Garg’s alleged sexually explicit and indecent remarks on actress Nishita Goswami at the Prag Cine Award Show 2021.

The commission has asked the police to start a probe into the matter.

A copy of its instruction has been sent to the DGP also asking him to do the needful, ASCW Member Secretary Cauvery Sarma informed.

The singer has faced heavy backlash for his offensive remarks on Nishita Goswami and also for ‘insulting’ a member of the LGBTQ community at the same event. Several activists have demanded an apology from the singer.

LGBTQ rights activist Milin Dutta while explaining the ordeal he faced on the stage said that he was not allowed to speak a single line by the singer and was shushed by Zubeen Garg when he tried to speak a few words about the motivation behind producing a film on the LGBTQ community.

“Society should step in and condemn such incidents before they become a part of the public psyche,” he quoted.
