Student from Dibrugarh University admitted in ICU after jumping from 2nd story of hostel to save himself from ragging

Ragging

Despite government orders and educational institution reminders, the menace of ragging persists. Every year, the UGC issues guidelines and letters to educational institutions directing them to take the necessary steps to fight ragging.

To detect such issues, the Commission advises institutions to hold counselling sessions with students.

However, some educational institutions fail to heed such advice and orders, making it more difficult for students to settle into colleges and other educational institutions.

In Assam, one such incident has come to light. Anand Sharma of Amguri, a Dibrugarh University student living at PNGB Hostel, has been accused of ragging by seniors in the hostel.

The incident occurred last night in the hostel. To save himself, he jumped from a two-story hostel building. He is critically injured and is being treated in the intensive care unit at Aditya Hospital in Dib. The family has stated that they will file a FIR.

“We are enquiring about the matter and are going to take strict action against the culprits,” said Dr Jiten Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University.r
