The Assam government gave electric scooters to 35,800 deserving students who excelled in their higher secondary exams this year on Wednesday.

The Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award was presented as part of the Pragya Bharti initiative.

To qualify for the award, boys must get 75% in the upper secondary examinations administered by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, while girls must achieve 60% in the same tests.

The occasion was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, and other politicians and government officials.

Sarma also stated that all female students in Assam will receive a stipend of $10,000 per year if they continue post-graduate courses inside the state’s borders.

The chief minister also mentioned an impending initiative in which lady students studying post-graduate programs in state educational institutions will receive $1,000 per month.

“We are assisting them to relieve burden on their parents’ shoulders.” This sum will assist them in covering their transportation and other relevant expenditures. “I hope this scheme inspires many girls to pursue post-secondary education,” Sarma said.

He stated that a separate webpage would be launched next week through which ladies doing any post-graduate degree in any field will be able to apply.

“Girls seeking graduation will also be included in the plan in the future years,” he said.

Aside from the main event, the pupils who qualified for the Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award got scooties from their respective district offices.

Dr. Pugu stated that 29,748 of the 35,800 patients are females and 6,052 are boys.

He congratulated the students on Twitter, writing, “Empowering women with proper education is one of the main objectives of this award, and we are glad to see nearly 30,000 girls have qualified this year.”
