Joonbeel Mela- The Barter Affair!
Held since the early 17th century, the Jonbeel festival is a three-day annual festival organised by the Tiwa tribe in Assam and Meghalaya in Assam’s Jagiroad, at a place called Dayang Belguri. It is touted to be the only regular event on the planet where the barter system is still practiced. The Jonbeel Mela is also an event that has kept the relevance of tribal kings alive and features the Gobha king’s visit on the final day when he holds a durbar and listens to his people’s complaints.
Sualkuchi Village- Weavers Everywhere!
Sualkuchi is a village in the Kamrup district, which is often dubbed as the “Manchester of Assam”, because of its huge cottage and textile industry. It is one of the largest weaving villages in the world. The entire population is engaged in weaving activity.
Muga ‘The Smooth Golden’ Silk!
It is a natural yellowish-golden silk that is produced in Assam and is in huge demand all over the. The fabric is superior in every respect in comparison to the normal white silk that available all over the world. It is also much more durable.
World’s largest and the smallest!
Assam is home to the world’s largest as well as the smallest river-island. Majuli the largest and Umananda the smallest are both located in the Northeastern state.
The Longest Rule in Indian History!
The Ahom dynasty which ruled Assam for nearly 600 years, is the longest continuous rule by a particular dynasty in the history of the country.

None of the Muslim invaders including the Mughal were able to conquer Assam due to its difficult terrains and the might of the Ahom dynasty.

Assam’s Hajo is an ancient pilgrimage centre for three religions: Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism.

Assam’s Digboi is home to the oldest oil well in Asia. The first refinery started here as early as 1901.
