A wild elephant attack in Assam’s Goalpara district, near the Assam-Meghalaya border, killed at least three people, including a child. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday in Kurang village, near Lakhipur on the Assam-Meghalaya border.

According to the forest official, a herd of wild elephants was searching for food in the nearby hills of Meghalaya when they attacked the people. “Three people including a child were killed in an elephant attack. The incident took place along Assam-Meghalaya bordering area,” Lakhipur Forest Range Officer Dhruba Dutta stated.

The injured were taken to the hospital, but doctors declared them dead. Him Kumar Roy, Sachit Vishwakarma, and Sharat Lama have been identified as the deceased.

According to the police, a person died in the same village six months ago in a similar attack. According to the villagers, wild elephants frequently enter the village due to a lack of food in the jungle. Locals claim that wild elephants frequently visit the area and cause damage to property.

A wild elephant attacked a young man in Guwahati’s Amsing Jorabat area last month. In May, three members of a family, including two women, were killed by wild elephants in Assam’s Goalpara district.

The incident occurred in Salbari Angtihara village in Goalpara district’s Lakhipur forest range.
