News Desk: Udalguri police finally made a major breakthrough in the gruesome killing of Kalaigaon teacher, Nayantora Saharia Barua. The police arrested late Nayantora’s husband Upendra Barua, eldest son Hirak Jyoti Barua, maid Jashoda Rabha and mason Nawazir Hussain for interrogation.
Udalguri Police on July 10 at first picket up Nawazir Hussain for interrogation. On July 11 maid Jashoda and finally Upendra Barua and eldest son were picked up for interrogation.
According to reports, the four arrested persons were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate at Udalguri. For further information, the four accused were remanded to police custody for seven days. The arrested people have been charged under several sections of IPC, including Section 302 (murder).
Nayantora Saharia was reported missing on July 10. On July 7, her body was recovered from a classroom of U.N. Academy. Her body was found with her face completely disfigured due to acid-like substance.
It was first suspected that she was raped but initial medical tests ruled out the allegation of rape. It is also suspected that an extramarital affair was maintained by the husband of the late teacher and this may have been the reason behind the killing.
On July 12, L.R. Bishnoi, the Additional Director General of Police of Assam tweeted “Under close monitoring by Hon. @DGPAssamPolice & myself, @AssamCid & @udalguripolice relentlessly pursued an investigation of Kalaigaon PS C/No. 65/20 & solved it within 4 days. Arrested accused Upendra Baruah, Hirakjyoti, Smt. Jashoda Rabha & Nawazir Hussain are in 7 days remand.”
