Guwahati Desk: The Assam State Health Department has recommended the Kamrup (M) District Administration to device plans for a ward-wise lockdown due to the rising number of cases in the district.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday that the ward-wise lockdown plan will be in addition to the containment zones in the district. To begin with, the ward-wise lockdown will be for a period of 7 days. But the lockdown might get extended to another 7 days, if necessary.
Himanta Biswa Sarma also confirmed that the Government will also introduce at least 31 screening centers in 31 wards of Guwahati city.
Guwahati has witnessed a spike in COVID-19 cases since June 15 following the Targeted Surveillance Program in the city. Guwahati city has recorded 144 COVID-19 cases with no travel history.
So far Assam has recorded 5388 COVID-19 confirmed cases, out of which 3360 people have recovered with 2019 active cases. Till now, 9 people lost their life due to the pandemic.
