Axom Nagarik Samaj on Thursday organized a Press Meet at Guwahati Press Club acquainting the media about the ‘discording’ politics played by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The press meeting was chaired by Dipen Malakar who openly criticized the BJP government in Assam.
During the meet, he said,” when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, the party made many tall promises in their Memorandum in 2016. The party said that when they will come to power, its party will implement all the promises of the vision document.
The party also gave the assurance that the flood problem and the erosion caused by rivers in the state will be solved. The BJP party also announced the dredging of the Brahmaputra river. However, in the last five years, none of the promises have been fulfilled.”
“Another booming pledge of the ruling party was the implementation of the Assam Accord, particularly the Clause 6 of the Accord which will provide constitutional safeguard of cultural, social, heritage and linguistic identity of Assamese people.
But instead of fulfilling these promises, the Sarbananda Sonowal led BJP government has been selling public sectors to Centre favored Corporate houses.
Another burning topic of the state is the price rise of essential commodities making the life of common people intolerable,” Malakar added.
“We, the Axom Nagarik Samaj strongly condemn the actions of the BJP government in Assam and strongly feel that the dubious and instigating propaganda of the Saffron party must be countered by unitedly stressing on the humanistic, cultural and social identity of the Assamese people.
The Citizen Amendment Act (CAA) was used to communally divide the people of the state, disrupting the old-age fraternal harmony of the people of Assam,” Dipen Malakar further added.
He also informed that in order to unitedly fight against the BJP party, the Axom Nagarik Samaj will organize a Citizen’s Convention on December 20 at 10:30 morning at Pragjyoti Cultural Complex, Maligaon in Guwahati.
The convention will be inaugurated by the eminent Supreme Court advocate and Human Rights activist Prashant Bhusan.
