Former All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Thursday bid his final adieu from the student union.
The former AASU leader got emotional during his speech at the farewell ceremony held at Guwahati University (G.U). During his speech, Lurinjyoti relished the moments during the anti-CAA protests when people from all over Assam contributed money for AASU’s protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The former AASU leader said, “During the anti-CAA protests, people from all over Assam contributed money for our cause, it doesn’t matter if they donated Rs. 1000, 1500, 2000 or 2 lakhs. All that matters are the love, emotion, sentiments, passion, and spirit of the public and their love for the Motherland. The monetary contributions by the people of Assam exhibit their responsibility towards Assam, their love, and trust in AASU.
I have with great care and affection reserved their donations along with the envelopes. These envelopes symbolize their hopes, emotions, sentiments, passion, and principles. It also signifies people’s trust in AASU, their love for the state, and the struggle to keep the culture of Assam alive.”
“Today, I am honored to proffer these contributions to the AASU Party President Dipankar Kumar Nath and General Secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah. But before that, I want to publicly announce the list of donations that was handed over to me by the people of Assam.
• Sasoni, Dibrugarh- Rs. 2 lakhs and 30 thousand.
• Golaghat Marwadi Society- Rs. 1 lakh.
• Lengeri, Dibrugarh- Rs. 81,140.
• Tingkhong, Dibrugarh- Rs. 44,210.
• Silapathar Bamgaon Mahila Samiti- Rs. 30,000.
• Dhekiajuli- Rs. 21,001.
• Brihattor Koliapani Anchalik Yuva Samiti- Rs. 21,000.
• Talap Mahila Samiti- Rs. 10,500.
• Sangram Sajagata Sachetan Mahila Samiti, Kakojan, Komargaon- Rs. 10,001.
• Miripothar- Rs. 1800.
• Talap, Kokoratoli- Rs. 1500.
The total contribution amounts to Rs. 551152, which I am now presenting to AASU.”, Lurinjyoti said.
