With the current Chief Secretary of Assam Kumar Sanjay Krishna retiring in three days, Dispur is in a dilemma as to who the next Chief Secretary will be.
It is being learned that a proposal was earlier sent to New Delhi to extend the current Chief Secretary’s tenure by six months. However, the situation changed since Kumar Sanjay Krishna’s brother’s name came up in the Assam Police SI recruitment scam.
The names of Ravi Capoor, a 1986 batch IAS officer, Jishnu Barua, a 1988 batch IAS officer, and V S Bhaskar, a 1985 batch IAS officer, have come up for the post of the Chief Secretary of Assam, although it is more likely that Ravi Capoor might get selected for the top post.
However, it is noteworthy that Capoor is set to retire on December 31. So, the question that arises here is, ‘At a time when there is border tension with Mizoram and the BTC elections looming around the corner, will the government give an officer with just 2-months time left for retirement the top post or are they planning long term?’
