Worst performers in school education of NE: PGI report card

Education performance of Five North-eastern states – Assam, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Meghalaya – are among the five worst performers in regards to school education, as per the latest report by Performance Grading Index which is released by the Union Ministry of Education.

Meghalaya is placed at the bottom of the chart with just 649 points. Tripura was the best Northeast State as per the index and is placed at the 20th spot with 801 points.

The score is derived using databases on 70 parameters such as access, equity, governance processes, infrastructure and facilities, and learning outcomes that are mostly self-reported by the States but vetted by the Centre, with National Achievement Survey data also being incorporated.

The rankings of the eight Northeast states as per the Performance Grading Index are:

20th – Tripura with 801 points.

24th – Sikkim with 772 points.

25th – Manipur with 767 points.

31st – Assam with 738 points.

32nd – Mizoram with 723 points.

34th – Arunachal with 698 points.

35th – Nagaland with 667 points.

36th – Meghalaya with 649 points.
