The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday ordered the cancellation of polls at polling station number 126 in the Sitalkuchi Assembly constituency of West Bengal.
The decision comes against the backdrop of five persons being killed by Central Forces.
According to reports, Central Forces allegedly opened fire after coming under attack from locals, who ‘attempted to snatch their rifles’.
The decision was based on an interim report filed by special observers.

Violence first broke out when two unidentified men on a motorcycle fired at a queue of voters, killing one person. Four people died near another polling booth when security forces opened fire to control unrest among voters, as people shoved and pushed duty police officers, said the official, declining to be named ahead of a final assessment of the incident.
As per recent reports, the TMC party wrote to the Chief Election Officer (CEO), West Bengal seeking an explanation over the “brutal murder” of people in Cooch Behar.
