Samyukt Kisan Morcha, a coalition of farmers’ unions has given the call for ‘Bharat Bandh’ on March 26.
The Morcha has appealed to people to make the nationwide strike a success.
Farmers protesting against the three agriculture laws passed in Parliament last year have called for a complete Bharat Bandh as it marks four months of their agitation on Delhi borders. The agitation started on November 26, 2020.
Unlike the previous bandhs, chakka jams, this is going to be a complete bandh. It will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm.
Rail, road transportation services are most likely to be affected. Markets and other public places will also remain closed from 6 am to 6 pm on Friday.
However, this is may not be applicable in poll-bound states.
Moreover, participation in Bharat Bandh in support of the farmers will be optional for traders.
Thousands of protesting farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and several other states have been staging a sit-in along Delhi borders-
• Singhu
• Tikri and
• Ghazipur.
They are demanding repeal of the farm laws and a legal guarantee that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will continue. Protesting farmers fear that the new laws will dismantle MSP and corporatize farming.
This is the second nation-wide strike announced by the farmers.
The first ‘bandh’ took place on December 8 which was witnessed in Assam, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
It received support from several trade unions, various other organizations as well as 24 opposition parties, including the Congress and the NCP.
