Border tensions arise between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh over the road construction

Tension rises between the North-Eastern states over the border disputes. This time tension rises over Arunachal Pradesh constructing roads on the borderland of Mingmang in Gogamukh in Dhemaji district of Assam. An unpleasant atmosphere arises at the border of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh, Gogamukh in the district Dhemaji.
The locals of Mingmang, Bodoti, Paharpur, Dharmapur, Kailashpur, Nalbari opposed the construction of paved roads constructed by the Arunachal government and set fire on camp, broke a culvert, and demolished the car. Meanwhile, after the people of Assam blocked the road constructed by Arunachal. The Arunachalee people reacted with an open fire at the protesting people of Assam. Fortunately, there were no casualties from the fire. The incident took place at the Hime Basti area under Assam’s Gogamukh police station.
It may be recalled that there has been a conflict between the two states over the road being constructed under the PMGSY scheme connecting Itanagar to Likabali. The people of both states have already taken up protest programs on the same route several times.
Assam and Arunachal Pradesh January 24 decided to conduct a ground-level survey on the status of the inter-state boundary to resolve the border dispute at a chief ministerial-level meeting. Sarma held a meeting with his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu to discuss the border issue.
