CBI arrests Senior Statistical Officer on corruption charges

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), following a complaint, has arrested a Senior Statistical Officer in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. The officer is from the National Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation in CBD Belapur. The officer has been accused of demanding a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant.

A case has been registered against the Senior Statistical Officer from NSO’s Field Operation Division. The case was registered on the allegations that the accused demanded Rs. 10,000 as an undue advantage from the complainant for submission & closure of the Final Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) Return for his company. CBI laid a trap and caught the Senior Statistical Officer red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant. During searches at the premises of the accused, various incriminating documents/articles were recovered.

The accused was produced before the Competent Court and was initially remanded to police custody till 23rd July. Further, he was produced today before the Court of Special Judge, Thane, and remanded to Judicial Custody for 14 days.
