Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against former Associate Professor and former Finance Officer both working in the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong.
Both were alleged of submitting forged bills amounting to approximately Rs.11,60,100. The forged bills were submitted under the Waste Management Project funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (Government of India).
It was further alleged that the accused during the period from August 2018 to October 2018 had misappropriated the government funds in two projects. These two projects were under the Environmental Information System (ENVIS).
Related to the investigation, CBI conducted search operations in the office premises of ENVIS Resource Partner Centre, NEHU, Shillong. This led to the recovery of incriminating documents including a list of students under two courses (Waste Management and Environmental Laws). Details of account opened in the name of ENVIS RP Centre, NEHU, Shillong & Correspondence related to release of funds were also recovered.
The CBI also registered another case on a complaint from Dy. CVO (Traffic), Northern Railway, New Delhi against 04 officials under DCR, Delhi, a private company, and other unknown public servants & private persons.
It was alleged that the private company in collaboration with the said public servants & others entered into conspiracy during the period 2012 & 2013. They lifted the scrap worth Rs. 2.24 crores (approximate) on the basis of money receipts issued by the accused public servants without actual realization of the said amount in the Railway account.
A total of 7 searches were conducted at different places which led to the recovery of various incriminating documents including property documents & bank account papers etc.
As per sources, investigation in both cases is still on.
