Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered a case against a Superintendent of Customs Department, Imphal.
The Superintendent has been alleged of possession of disproportionate assets of about Rs. 56.75 lakhs.
It was alleged that the accused during the period of January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2020, had acquired huge assets both movable and immovable in his name. The assets were also acquired in the name of his family members.
All these assets were disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The accused has been identified as the Superintendent of Customs Division (Imphal) Wahengbam Hemantakiswar Luwang.
Searches were conducted on Thursday at the premises of the accused and his relatives at Imphal, Manipur. These led to the recovery of cash amounting to about Rs. 10.59 lakhs, gold ornaments worth Rs. 15 lakhs.
Four bank accounts, 15 LIC Policies, and other incriminating documents including the purchase of various properties including paddy lands and homestead land.
Investments in Financial Institutions were also recovered.
As per recent reports, an investigation is continuing.
