Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain is likely to join the BJP on August 1.
BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita on Thursday announced the joining of the Congress MLA after a meeting with BJP national president JP Nadda. Speaking to the media, Borgohain said, “I have informed the Congress party that I will be joining BJP on August 1 as I was asked for a clarification on Wednesday. I have my stand very clear on that. And I hope I can move forward in my new journey.”
“I do share camaraderie with the Congress party as I have been a part of it for a long time. Leaving Congress will take time but I believe all the formalities will be done within the next week and APCC will inform my decision to the high command,” the MLA further added.
Sushanta Borgohain will be the second MLA from the Congress party to join the BJP after the saffron party comes to power in Assam for the second time
