Covid 19 Update – Meghalaya Government Extends Lockdown

The Meghalaya government on Friday has announced the extension of Covid 19 instigated lockdown in the state until further notice.
The announcement was made by the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, M S Rao after a review meeting.

The Covid 19 induced lockdown was supposed to end on June 21, however, the Meghalaya government keeping in mind the increase in Covid cases decided to extend the lockdown.
“It is observed that the number of COVID-19 cases is still very high and there is a significant spread in rural areas of the state. It is also observed that the positivity rate in five districts is in excess of 10 percent.
In order to safeguard the state from an uncontrollable surge in COVID-19 cases, the containment measures issued will continue to be enforced in the state w.e.f. June 21 until further orders,” MS Rao said in an order.

Meanwhile, informing the extension of lockdown in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed in Twitter –
“In order to safeguard the State from an uncontrollable surge in #Covid_19, the Containment Measures issued on 11th of June, 2021 will be reinstated throughout the State w.e.f 21st June 2021 until further orders.”
