India saw 68,020 new Covid-19 infections in a day, the highest single-day rise so far this year. This has taken the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 1,13,55,993.
According to Union Health Ministry, the daily deaths have crossed the 300 mark for the first time in 2021.
Registering a steady increase for the 18th day in a row, the active cases have increased to 5,21,808 comprising 4.06 percent of the total infections.
Recent data indicates that the recovery rate has further dropped to 94.58 percent.

The 68,020 new cases were reported in a span of 24 hours, the highest since October 16, 2020. Meanwhile, the death toll has increased to 1,61,843 with 312 daily new fatalities, the highest in around three months.
The daily death toll of 312 is the highest since December 25, 2020, when 336 new deaths were reported.

The number of people who have convalesced from the disease had surged to 1,13,55,993, while the Case Fatality Rate stood at 1.35 percent.
Eight states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Punjab, account for 84.5 percent of the 68,020 fresh cases recorded in the country in the last 24 hours.

• Maharashtra has reported the highest daily rise of 40,414 Covid-19 cases.
• Karnataka- 3,082 cases.
• Punjab- 2,870 cases.
• Madhya Pradesh- 2,276 cases.
• Gujarat- 2,270 cases.
• Kerala- 2,216 cases.
• Tamil Nadu- 2,194 cases.
• Chhattisgarh- 2,153 cases.
