Droupadi Murmu Swearing-In Ceremony: PM said, “Her assuming Presidency is watershed moment for India”

Today, on July 25, Droupadi Murmu will be assuming charge as the India’s 15th President succeeding on going President Ram Nath Kovind. PM Narendra Modi said that the entire nation watched with pride as the newly elected President took oath today. He marks this moment as ‘watershed moment for India’.

While addressing the nation on her speech, the newly elected President Murmu on Monday stated that it is an honour for her to be serving as the President while India celebrates its 75 years of Azadi Ka Amrit  Mahotsav.

The Prime Minister hailed Murmu’s hailed Murmu’s oath taking speech and said she gave a message of hope and compassion.

Draupadi Murmu is the second woman President of India and the first President from a tribal community. She defeated Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha. Her political career began in 1997 when she joined the BJP.
