After imposing a ban on the campaigning of the Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the third phase of Assam Assembly Elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered the transfer of his brother Sushanta Biswa Sarma, SP of Goalpara district.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Goalpara, Sushanta Biswa Sarma, has been transferred and will be replaced by Veera Venkata Rakesh Reddy (IPS) “with immediate effect.”
Vide a letter no. 434/01//ECI/LET/TERR/NE2-AS/2021 dated April 2, 2021, under the subject: “General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam, 2021- Posting of Shri Veera Venkata Rakesh Reddy as SP, Goalpara-Regarding” addressed to The Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, the Election Commission of India’s letter bore the signature of the Under Secretary, Love Kush Yadav, and the letter contained the above-mentioned order. The letter also asked for the Compliance Report to be furnished immediately.
As per the ECI notice, Sushanta Biswa Sarma will be transferred to some “suitable post” in state headquarter.
