Election Officer Suspended in Assam on Money Theft Case

Just a few hours left for the third phase of the Assam Assembly election voting day. Amidst the high voltage election schedules, the Election Officer of Barpeta district, Shashi Kumar Deka has been suspended with immediate effect.

On Saturday, an amount of Rs. 55 lakhs have been stolen from the election officer’s room.
The cash was kept for spending for all the employees deployed on election duty. Later police caught the culprits who were involved in the matter.
The people involved are:
• Alakesh Deka and
• Pranjal Kakoty
Both are employees of the office itself. The police were also to recover the cash from them.

Gayatri Sharma has been immediately appointed as Election officer of the Barpeta district.
