Causing a major setback to Congress, former Union Minister Jitin Prasada on Wednesday joined Bharatiya Janata Party.
The two-time Congress MLA took the decision to join BJP party ahead of the Uttar Pradesh election next year.

The 47-year-old leader was Congress’ top Brahmin face in Uttar Pradesh.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal and party spokesperson Anil Baluni were also present during the former Congress MLA’s induction to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
With the Assembly Elections due next year in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP government were on the backfoot following criticism over the state’s Covid management, Jitin Prasada’s induction is likely to deal a huge blow to the Congress party.

Addressing to media during the joining ceremony at the BJP headquarter, the former Union Minister stated –
“BJP is the only real political party. It’s the only national party. Rest of the parties is regional.
Only BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi only can meet the challenges the country is facing now.”
“I started feeling that I was in a party only surrounded by politics. I started feeling that I was not being able to contribute and do my work for the people. I wasn’t being able to work for the benefit of the people,” the former Congress MLA further stated.

Jitin Prasada was in Rahul Gandhi‘s inner circle and went on to become a minister twice in the Manmohan Singh-led Congress government.
