Assam forest department officials have taken into custody four youths for allegedly slaughtering wild birds that are considered legally protected in Tezpur, Assam.
According to the official sources, 12 birds were viciously killed by the accused persons in the Depota area of Tezpur.
The accused persons are identified as Sunil Dhela (27), Biraj Nagadwar (25), Dipak Dhela (24), and Deben Kopi (19).
Officials also informed that out of 12 endangered bird species, the accused have allegedly killed 2 house sparrows, 4 doves, and 3 cuckoos. A case has been registered against them under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 by the forest officials.
