Four Tiger Reserves of Assam have been accorded Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CATS) accreditation.
The National Committee of Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CATS) has recommended proposals for
• Kaziranga,
• Manas,
• Nameri and
• Orang Tiger Reserves
for CATS accreditation on Wednesday. This decision will give a major boost to the conservation effort of tigers.
The CATS assessment was conducted by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) in 27 Tiger Reserves in the first phase. And 24 more will be carried out in the second phase.
“This is also good news for conservationists and animal lovers alike. The CATS certificate will go a long way in further strengthening and improving management interventions insofar as conservation of big cats in Assam is concerned.” Assam Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya stated.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister for Environment and Forest, Prakash Javadekar, and the members of the National Committee for clearing all the four proposals from his department.
“CA|TS accreditation accorded to 4 Tiger Reserves of Assam will boost the conservation efforts of the big cats. I thank Union @moefcc Minister Shri @PrakashJavdekar ji & the members of the national committee for clearing all the four proposals.” Parimal Suklabaidya wrote on Twitter.

The conservation tool known as CATS was developed in collaboration with field managers, tiger experts, and government agencies engaged in tiger conservation. It was launched in 2013, with tigers as the first species selected for the initiative.
