Fraud arrested: Misuse of IPS officer Robin Hibu’s image to dupe Northeastern

A man using IPS Officer Robin Hibu’s name on Facebook and WhatsApp, asking for “emergency donation” from many Northeastern’s has been arrested in Rajasthan.

The accused has been identified as Salman Khan who later revealed his network of fraudulent activities.

Robin Hibu in a post informed, “Khan forged my photos in IPS Uniform from Facebook and Google where they are readily available.”

Khan had apparently sent requests to many northeast Indian people who are following Hibu on Facebook and other social media platforms.

Hibu is a Facebook post that stated, “People who donated money to send the money receipt, mobile numbers, and donors’ names for recovery of the money and for investigation by WhatsApp on the number 9810083486.”

His post also includes that some Northeast Indians youths have also tried to extort money from patients in the name of Hibu’s NGO named ‘Helping Hands’ which is raising funds to help the unfortunate during the ongoing pandemic.
