The Gauhati High Court has directed the Government of Assam to file a “detailed affidavit” within four weeks on the alleged large-scale encroachment of forest land within Lumding Reserve Forest under Hojai district. The Court gave this direction with respect to a PIL (Public Interest Litigation – 37/2021) filed before the High Court.
“This being the factual position, we must have an answer from the Government as to what the Government proposes to do regarding removal of the encroachers from the forest land, the Double bench of Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak said.
