The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) Veterinary Branch and Enforcement Branch along with the Assam Police led a joint inspection in several poultry and meat shops across Guwahati, as the illegal unhygienic sale of meat.
An investigation is being carried out at Bhootnath, Beltola, Basistha, Katahbari, and the Ganeshpara area of Guwahati.
During the investigation, GMC found that various poultry such as mutton vendors were running illegally without a valid license and without taking valid approval from the district authority. Many shopkeepers were found to be flaunting COVID-19 protocols including social distancing rules.
During the operation, the total numbers of 25 Live Goat, 10kgs of Poultry, and 5kgs of Mutton have been seized from unauthorized poultry and meat shops and imposed a fine total of Rs. 47,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5000 as a penalty from the shopkeepers appropriately.
