Guwahati: Five more patients, who were admitted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) passed away earlier today. With the death of the 5 patients, the COVID-19 death toll in Assam has risen to 32.
Today, 4 people who were admitted at GMCH ICU, succumbed to COVID-19 infection. And 1 person who was a non-symptomatic patient with no comorbidities succumbed to the infection at IIT-Guwahati.
Earlier today, Assam Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “Very sad to inform that four #COVID patients – Sri Rakhal Deb (42), Sri Ramesh Kayastha (68), Sri Sukhamay Bhowmik (72), Smt. Arahi Baruah Saikia (70); admitted at GMCH ICU succumbed to the infection.
My heartfelt condolences to their families.”

In another tweet, he said: “With a heavy heart I inform you that Shri Hareswar Nath, 53 years old, a non-symptomatic patient with no comorbidities succumbed to COVID 19 at IITG COVID care centre. His oxygen levels plummeted to 90 within hours and he collapsed.

The number of deaths in Assam due to COVID-19 is rising at a steady and alarming pace. The State Health Department has ramped up its testing facilities.
It needs to be noted that the Health Department of Assam conducted its first Plasma Therapy Treatment to a critically ill patient.
