The ropeway is remarkable as it will be the longest river ropeway of the entire country with a total distance of 2 Km.
At present, the ropeway will be operational from 8 am till 6 pm and as many as 58 CCTV cameras have been reportedly installed for round-the-clock monitoring of the ropeway service. The entire project has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 56 crore.
A time span of seven minutes will be required to take passengers from North Guwahati to Guwahati.
The cabins are known to have been imported from Switzerland. The upper terminal is at Rajadwar village in North Guwahati with a lower terminal being at Kachari Ghat in Panbazar.
Overlooking the beautiful Brahmaputra River, the 1 .8 km long ropeway will facilitate passengers to cross the river reducing the travel time by an impressive difference. Keep your eyes wide open and look out for the Urvashi Island and catch a glimpse of the Umananda Temple on Peacock Island, built by Ahom King Gadadhar Singha who was said to be a devotee of Lord Shiva.
Tourism in Assam and its capital will get a major boost through the ropeway project. Guwahati gets a massive infrastructure boost. The ropeway is a Twin Track, Single Haul, Bi-Cable Double reversible Jig Back system with 2 Cabins each Capacity of 31(Passengers & Operators), Ropeway Capacity of 250 PPH (Persons Per Hour).
