Assam’s Mission Organic Value Chain Development, North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER) is planning to construct an Organic Retail Outlet (ORO). In line with this, the Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing, Assam had a foundation stone laying ceremony on Wednesday at the DoH & FP, Assam office premises, Krishi Bhawan, Guwahati.
Atul Bora, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Food Processing of Assam, was the primary guest and placed the foundation stone. This ORO seeks to make organic produce more accessible to city dwellers. Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) from numerous districts participating in the MOVCD-NER, Assam initiative can now sell their organic goods through this Guwahati shop.
The occasion was attended by Anant Lal Gyani, IAS, Director of Agriculture; Triranga Bharatiya Borah, Director of DoH & FP, Assam; and other officials from DoH & FP Assam and the Department of Agriculture.
Atul Bora noted during the ceremony, “Under MOVCD-NER Assam Scheme, organic cultivation has been implemented in various districts of Assam through FPCs. Recently, organic produce like Assam lemon and pineapples have also been marketed to foreign countries like London and Dubai. Keeping in mind the health benefits of an organic product, this initiative of opening an organic retail outlet will help our people consume healthy food and live a healthy life.”
