News Desk: In today’s press meet the Health Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the situation of Guwahati city is critical following the recent rise of COVID-19 cases.
He also said that the Home Minister Amit Shah has directed to adopt new testing model. The Union Home Minister also held an exclusive discussion with the ICMR and Health Ministry on the situation arising in Guwahati city.
As suggested by ICMR, Amit Shah directed Himanta Biswa Sarma to adopt the new testing model ‘Q-COVID19-AG’. The new testing model will speed up the test result and will be able to give results within 1.5 Hours.
The new testing model will be launched in the next 2-3 days.
Amit Shah also asked the Health Minister to conduct at least 10000 tests per day.
The state government plans to conduct around 2,000 to 3,000 tests in Guwahati per day.
Guwahati city alone has recorded 1,212 cases from June 24 to June 30. On July 1, till the time of the press conference, an additional 157 positive cases were recorded in the city.
It is to be commended that Assam is amongst the top three states of India to conduct the highest numbers of tests on a daily basis.
