Members of Raijor Dal on Saturday staged a protest demanding the release of party president Akhil Gogoi near Ganesh Mandir in Ganeshguri.
The protestors were planning to demonstrate a ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation for the release of the peasant leader.
Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner of Police, Debaraj Upadhyay, informed that the protestors did not take any prior permission to conduct the protest which resulted in disruption of traffic movement. Dispur police have arrested five protestors in this regard.
Gogoi who was arrested for allegedly inciting violence during anti-CAA agitation in December 2019 has been in judicial custody ever since. His last bail plea was rejected on January 7.
