The 33rd Guwahati Book Fair held at the Assam Engineering Institute playground in the Chandmari area in Guwahati took place from December 30, 2020, to January 10, 2021, and it turned out to be a huge success. The book fair had a record sale of books. Books worth Rs. 10 crore were sold in the book fair organised by Publication Board Assam.
“Altogether books of Rs. 10 crore have been sold. Publication Board Assam sold books worth Rs. 12 lakh in ten days. It is definitely a good indication for the society,” Pramod Kalita, secretary of the board, said.
He also stated that the around 25,000-1 lakh people attended the fair every day.
Asom Sahitya Sabha president Dr Kuladhar Saikia while attending the concluding meeting of the book fair said, “A good quantity of books has been sold at Guwahati Book Fair. The business of books was good. It is always alleged that young people do not read books. But the sale of books at this event has proved such a notion wrong.”
