A total of Rs. 4 crore has been collected by Assam Police as fines during its drive against traffic violators in the month of December in Guwahati alone. This was informed by Harmeet Singh, Guwahati Police Commissioner.
He further added that almost 22 thousand people were penalized for not wearing helmets in just 15-20 days.
Also, a total of 600 people have been intercepted by the police for drinking and driving in the past week. Meanwhile, the Guwahati Police Commisioner also informed that the police had collected fines of Rs 2.5 crore per month until the month of November.
Guwahati Traffic Police officials are trying their best best to ensure that no accidents take place during the New Year by keeping a strict vigil to track down drunk drivers.
