Singapore based agency to prepare master plan of 1000 acres land for satellite township near Guwahati

The Assam government intends to construct a ‘satellite township’ or satellite city near Guwahati on a 1,000-acre plot of land.

The satellite city plan was revealed in a press release issued by state Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal’s office.

The government has designated the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) as the agency in charge of investigating the feasibility of the proposed project.

As a result, GMDA has appointed M/s Surbana Jurong Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd., a Government of Singapore agency, as a consultant after a competitive bidding process. According to the statement, the agency will create master plans and development plans for the proposed satellite city.

According to the statement, the state government has begun planning for a new ‘satellite township’ or satellite city on 1,000 acres near Guwahati in response to the city’s growing population and increasing pressure from all sides.

It went on to say that the consultant agency had already presented its preliminary recommendations to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal, and that the final presentation is expected soon.

According to the press release, the state government announced in the state budget for 2022-23 the establishment of a world-class integrated business town near Guwahati called ‘Amrit-Guwahati Integrated Global City (AMRIT-GIG City).’

The proposed Amrit-GIG business city will be meticulously planned over 1000 acres. According to the statement, the plan will cover ‘new-age’ residential and social infrastructure, as well as ‘world-class infrastructure for the next generation to adapt to changing times.’

Proposals (Request for Proposal – RFP) have already been invited for the Performance Based Challenge Fund (Performance Based Challenge Fund) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Government of India, to create eight new cities in the country, based on the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission. According to the statement, the state government’s department of housing and urban affairs is also participating in this central tender with the goal of receiving the Rs 500 crore central fund.
