Guwahati: The midnight of June 28 marks the restart of lockdown in Guwahati in the midst of the rapidly increasing corona positive cases in the city. However, without the previous relaxations, the lockdown this time is much different from the previous ones.
All the shops except the pharmacies are to remain closed during the lockdown. From the arterial roads to neighbourhood streets, everything remains deserted with people keeping indoors and vehicular movement restricted.
The police are trying their best to ensure a successful lockdown by placing barricades at key intersections and blocking free access to the main thoroughfares across the district. The authorities have also warned of strict action against the lockdown violators.
Guwahati Police Commissioner MP Gupta told media persons that CCTV cameras and drones will be used to identify lockdown violators.
The following activities will be prohibited during the lockdown:
Except for Hospitals and Pharmacies, all other shops to remain closed for the first 7 days
All private offices, government autonomous/ subordinate offices to remain closed.
All businesses, commercial establishments, industrial establishment and shops, and other activities shall be closed as well.
Educational Institutes, religious places, etc will remain closed.
All kinds of social, political, sports, entertainment, cultural and religious functions will be prohibited.
Also during cremation, no more than 20 people will be allowed.
All non-essential and avoidable movement will be strictly prohibited.
No public transport, private vehicles will be allowed during the lockdown.
Even special vehicle pass which was given during the first lockdown has now been restricted.
The Kamrup Metropolitan district has seen a significant rise in novel corona virus positive cases in this month. Guwahati city reported 195 cases in the last 24 hours.
