Hundreds of Ola and Uber drivers protest

An estimated 300 Ola and Uber drivers gathered at the Geetanagar protest ground today and deleted both the ride-sharing app as a show of protest.

On being asked about their grievances, one of the protestors said, “More than half of the profit was taken by the company, nothing left with us but to live in starvation.” Another protestor stated, “The Ola and Uber owner has betrayed us. As I failed to give my EMI due to the pandemic my car was taken back by the car company, it was the only mode of earning my livelihood. Now no option left with me but to do suicide.”

Meanwhile, due to the severe financial crunch during the ongoing pandemic, more than 10,000 Ola and Uber drivers have become unemployed as they did not receive any financial assistance neither from the companies nor the Assam government to cope with the crisis.
