PM Narendra Modi during a virtual interaction on Wednesday expressed concern over the rise in COVID-19 cases in parts of the country.
He also called for “quick and decisive” steps to check the emerging second peak.
The virtual interaction was with the Chief Ministers of different states over the pandemic situation and the ongoing vaccination drive.
During the meet, PM Modi stated that in states like Maharashtra, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh the number of COVID cases has seen a steep rise. Moreover, nearly 70 districts in the country have seen an increase in the positivity rate by over 150 percent.
“The confidence brought by India’s fight against the pandemic so far should not cause carelessness.” Narendra Modi stated. He also asked Chief Minister to take every necessary measure including more Covid testing, increase in the number of vaccination centers to curb the virus.
“If we do not stop it here, then a condition for a nationwide outbreak may emerge.
‘Test’, ‘track’ and ‘treat’ methods should be taken seriously. It has been over a year since the outbreak.” PM Narendra Modi added.

PM Narendra Modi restated that RT PCR tests should make up for over 70 percent of overall Coronavirus testing. He also noted that states like Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Odisha have been mostly dependent on antigen tests.
