The Indian Railways achieved another unparalleled milestone by completing the Arch closure of the iconic Chenab Bridge.
A part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project (USBRL), Chenab Bridge will be the world’s highest railway bridge. Its arch will be 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
This achievement by the engineers is a major leap towards the completion of the 111 kilometers long winding stretch from Katra to Banihal.
The bridge built by Indian Railways is expected to reach completion within a year at an estimated cost of Rs. 1486 crores.
What makes the arch-shaped bridge such a monumental challenge is the hostile terrain in which it has to be constructed.

Salient features of the Chenab Bridge:
• The bridge is 1315 meters long.
• It is the highest railway bridge in the world, 359 meters above river bed level.
• Will be 35 meters higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower.
• World’s most sophisticated software ‘Tekla’ used for structural designing.
• The structural steel is suitable for -10 degree Celsius to 40 degree Celsius temperature.
December 2022 is the reported deadline for the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project that will link Kashmir, for the first time in India’s history, to the rest of the country via a railway network.
