China puts hold on petition by India, US at UN to list Pak-based LeT’s Shahid Mahmood as global terrorist

China has blocked a proposal by India and the United States to identify Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Shahid Mahmood as a global terrorist at the United Nations, the fourth time in as many months that Beijing has blocked bids to blacklist terrorists at the international body.

According to reports, China has put a halt to India and the United States’ attempt to name Mahmood as a global terrorist under the UN Security Council’s 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee.

China has put a stop on listing requests to identify Pakistan-based terrorists under the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee framework for the fourth time in as many months.

In December 2016, the US Treasury Department identified Mahmood as a global terrorist.
