The Indian Army on early Monday captured a Chinese Soldier near the Demchok area of Ladakh.

The Indian Army informed that the soldier had strayed across the Line of Actual Control and will be handed over to the People Liberation Army (PLA) soon. The Chinese soldier has been identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long by the Indian Army.

“A PLA soldier identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long was apprehended in the Demchok sector of Eastern Ladakh on 19 October 2020 after he had strayed across the LAC,” the army said in a statement.

A request has also been received from the PLA about the whereabouts of the missing soldier and as per established protocols the soldier will be returned to Chinese officials at te Chushul-Moldo meeting point after the completion of modalities, the statement added.

“Based on what I know, one Chinese soldier was detained by the Indian side, very likely because of getting lost. (The) Indian side has a positive attitude. The soldier will be returned to China. The issue should not cause new tensions in the border area,” Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of China’s state-backed Global Times said in a tweet

The PLA is yet to release a statement in this regard.
