Cases of Deltacron popped up in real now! In UK Deltacron is found and is being monitored. The debate of Deltacron as a “lab error” may be dismissed now as British health officials have identified a patient diagnosed with both Delta and Omicron that is Deltacron. However it is not clear of its origin till date. Deltacron the Hybrid of the Omicron and Delta strains was first reported by researchers in Cyprus, but later considered as unreal, dissmissed by the health expert and put down to sample contamination.
The Delta led deadly second wave of Covid-19 infection in India and Omicron was responsible for the third wave. In 2021 Leonidos Kostrikis, working at the University of Cyprus claimed that his team identified 25 cases of Deltacron. The hybeid strain had Omicron-like genetic signatures with Delta genome. However there was a global push back against his discovery and health experts dismissed Deltacron as “lab error”.
