Former US President Donald Trump acknowledged Hinduphobia and promised to construct a Hindu Holocaust memorial in Washington, DC. Trump also stated at a Diwali event that his party won the 2016 presidential elections because of Hindus.
“I totally endorsed the idea of building a Hindu holocaust memorial in DC,” Donald Trump said to applause from the audience. He was speaking at a Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC) Diwali event at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Around 200 Indian-Americans attended the event.
“We had support from the Hindu population, the great Hindu people both times (2016 and 2020) and great support from India, people from India. I fully endorsed the idea of building a Hindu Holocaust memorial in (Washington) DC. I think it’s time we are going to get that done,” Trump stated.
Furthermore, Trump stated that if he wins the presidential election in 2024, he will raise India-related issues at the United Nations and promise to take America’s relationship with India to the next level.
Trump running an RSS agenda?
Trump’s promise of a Hindu Holocaust memorial drew mixed reactions from Indian political parties. While some liked the idea, others thought it was a ploy to get votes.
“Appreciable if Trumps constructs Hindu Holocaust Memorial in Washington DC.” JD (U) leader GM Shaheen said.
Altaf Thakur, BJP Spokesperson, credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “It is all because of PM Modi and his policies that the world is listening to India”.
However, the National Conference (NC) believes that it is a hollow electoral promise to win the votes of Indian-origin people.
“I Want to remind Mr Trump that India is not only about Hindus, India is a country known for its heterogeneous composition- his statement undermines this. He is undermining the sacrifices made by many Muslims and many Sikhs. You cannot talk about the RSS agenda here.” NC’s Zeeshan Rana stated
