On Wednesday, the Chief Financial Officer of Twitter said that it will not permit former president Donald Trump back on the platform even if he stands for elections in the future.
“The way our policies work, when you’re removed from the platform, you’re removed from the platform, whether you’re a commentator, a CFO, or a current or former public official,” Ned Segal said in an interview with television network CNBC.
Twitter’s decision to take such strict action against Trump was due to his igniting tweet related to a violent uprising by his supporters leading to a lethal siege at the US Capitol which took place on January 6. Other social media platforms like Facebook also prohibited him after the incident.
Segal said that the policies of the platform are made in such a way to make sure that its users don’t promote violence and if someone does that, they will be removed from the service.
Trump was a creative user of Twitter and used the platform for policy announcements, political campaigns and had more than 80 million followers at the time his account got suspended.
