International Desk: Four heavily armed gunmen on Monday tried to storm into the Pakistan Stock Exchange building in Karachi killing at least 7 people, officials said.
According to Rescue Service Chief Faisal Edhi, the casualties include a policeman, two guards and the four gunmen who were shot down by the security forces. Seven others are said to be injured including two policemen.
“Two [attackers] were killed at the gate, and two of them went inside in an injured state and were then killed there,” Edhi said.
The unidentified militants opened indiscriminate fire and lobbed hand grenades at the main gate of the building as they tried to storm it. The building is in a high-security zone and also houses the head offices of many private banks.
“The situation is still unfolding and management, with the help of security forces, is managing the security and controlling the situation,” the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) said on Twitter.
No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack till now.
