Gunmen Kill 3 UN Peacekeepers in Central African Republic

United Nations (UN) Secretary Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, said in a statement, on Thursday that unidentified gunmen attacked United Nations peacekeepers in the Central African Republic which resulted in the death of 3 officials and injuring two.

Dujarric said Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General condemned the attack by unknown armed combatants on Central African national defence and security forces, and the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in Dekoa, Kemo Prefecture, and Bakouma, Mbomou Prefecture.

The Secretary-General showed his deepest condolences to the families of deceased UN peacekeepers, people and Government of Burundi as well. He hopes for speedy recovery to the injured people.

He even recollected that attacks against United Nations peacekeepers may comprise a war against humanity.

Investigation on the atrocious attacks has been carried on by the Central African Republic authorities and immediate actions should be taken against the executioners.

The UN Secretary-General confirmed the United Nation allegiance towards working closely with national, regional and international partners, and to help advance harmony, peace and stability in the Central African Republic.
