India, Japan to Cooperate on 5G, ArtificiaI Intelligence

India and Japan on Wednesday finalized the text of the cybersecurity agreement that promotes cooperation in security and resilience in the areas of Critical Information Infrastructure, 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The pact was finalized when External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar held talks with Japanese Finance Minister Motegi Toshimitsu for the 13th India-Japan Foreign Ministers Strategic Dialogue in Tokyo.

The pact will effectively shut the door for Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE to sell their advanced telecom equipment in India.

The agreement promotes cooperation in capacity building, research, and development, security, and resilience in the areas of Critical Information Infrastructure, 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), among others, Ministry of External Affairs stated in a press release.

Reaffirming “similarities in their respective Indo-Pacific visions,” that is based on “rule of law and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity”, he Japanese side agreed to be the lead partner in the connectivity pillar of the Indo-Pacific Oceans’ Initiative (IPOI) and jointly take both countries’ respective visions for the Indo-Pacific forward.

Other key issues discussed between the 2 foreign ministers were UN Reforms, North Korea developments.
