New Delhi: India on Thursday hit out at China for trying to attempt to raise the issue of Kashmir at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on behalf of Pakistan. India said it “firmly” rejects Beijing’s interference in the country’s internal affairs.
“We have noted that China initiated a discussion in the UN Security Council on issues pertaining to the Indian Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir,” said Ministry of External Affairs in a statement.
In the statement, the ministry highlighted that this was not the first time China has sought to raise a subject that is solely an internal matter of India.
“We firmly reject China’s interference in our internal affairs and urge it to draw proper conclusions from such infructuous attempts,” said the statement.
China on Wednesday backed the request of Pakistan in the UNSC to discuss the underlying issue of Kashmir. This came on the day of first anniversary of abrogating the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. However, the four of the five permanent members— the US, UK, France and Russia — supported India.
